A Chainsaw To The Cunt wins no awards for originality but you can’t deny the band are not wearing their colours honestly here. Regurgitate fandom often seems split into two camps; that of the old, grimy, demo-tape quality goregrind, and that of the well-produced, Relapse-backed, d-beat and buzzsaw guitars goregrind. Amazing split cassette featuring two of my favourite goregrind discoveries of the last year or so. Tolerance pummel you with beats that are almost danceable, if they weren’t buried underneath a layer of grime, mirky guitars and shifted vokills. Birdflesh are probably one of the most fun grindcore bands you could hope to see live. The Farmer’s Wrath is a solid, well-produced full length effort from the comedic trio, who I guess are to “regular/traditional” grindcore that Rompeprop are to gore/pornogrind. Yes, there’s a silliness to proceedings, but the grind on show is 100% serious. Its deadly fast, with razor sharp riffing and barked vocals.

Hyped grindcore bands come and go, and it may seem that Six Brew Bantha have had their time in the sun (actually I need to check this), but the band’s self titled record holds up incredibly well. I recently busted out the record player to spin this again, and was still suitably impressed by the audible clout that the group possess. No nonsense, straight up, blasts of grindcore. Love it.

A solid entry from TFD, even though a bunch of these songs repeat on a ton of the band’s split 7″s (something which I hate, lookin’ at you Agathocles!). The production really comes into its own here and whilst Hater is probably still my favourite TFD record out of those I’ve heard, you really can’t go wrong with this if insane, scatter-brain grindcore is what you are looking for.

Also caught these guys live in both Slovenia and Hungary when I was touring a few years ago. This is some great shit. Vomi Noir though, where the fuck have you been all my life? This is some crushing, crushing fucking grindcore. Outstanding split.

An intense, brutal and unforgiving slab of grinding death metal. Everything about this is huge, from the production, to the riffs, to the overwhelming feeling you get playing this at full volume. This has been hyped quite a bit since its release and you can really see why. Expect a dense barrage of total sonic annihilation. If that’s your thing, get stuck in.

Banger! As with most things grind-related, it barely lasts 10 minutes, but what’s here is gross, ultra-fast blasting mayhem from both parties. Early Haemorrhage is up there with some of the best old school goregrind. Part Carcass puppetry, part Euro sleaze, Grume is a blasting attack that isn’t afraid to slow to a groove every now and then. The cover art leaves a little to be desired, but in the big picture this doesn’t matter as the record is so solid.

Miss Melanoma is probably the best stand-alone Libido Airbag release. It was the first time, I think, where they stepped away from murky sounds and production and went for a full studio-quality production. Honestly, this is fucking huge, and the electronics are so fucking nasty. The vocals… well, I guess those are up to the individual to decide on! Haha

Did anyone say Carcass worship? Mmhmmm that’s some tasty gore! Boasting a far cleaner and well produced sound than most medical grinders, Medical Etymology have more in common with The County Medical Examiners than they do with say, Pharmacist or Pathologist. On The Vitruvian Dissection, a warm, clean and sanitised sound is present as the practitioners allow us into their theatre for half hour or so.

Honestly, its been a while since I’ve heard some noisecore as good as this, so its a rare treat. There’s going to be no awards for originality won here, but if you know what you like and you like this brand of groovy heaviness (which is a million miles from any real grind lets be honest) then crack on, kid.

Arguably one of the most pointless splits in existence. Both bands are great, but this is so short and sweet it falls into novelty territory. Add to that the fact the ENT track here has already been released a bunch of times on other records and this little 7″ falls even further into pointlessness. A collectors item, most definitely.

Chunky, well-produced grindcore is the order of the day. My one complaint (sorry, because this is otherwise so awesome) is that the snare is a little too quiet, especially in the blast sections, but otherwise this is a well made and savage grindcore album. 5 Inch Graves is one of my favourite Phyllomedusa releases, not that I claim to have heard them all (I even have a 5IG t-shirt!). Anal Barbeque is a perfect continuation of the sessions the band brought to the split with XXX Maniak. This project is a cracking and volatile little collaboration between the members of (I think) Deflowered Cunt and Anal Cunt drummer Tim Morse. Abrasive, micro-blasting noisecore is the order of the day, living up in its entirety to the project’s name and its choice of art style. This is available on a limited run of cassettes for the true noise freaks, on which I can only imagine has a warmer sound than this digital version.

It would be wrong to say that Internal Rot’s Mental Hygiene flew under the radar, as it did receive a high amount of hype from impressed grinders, but personally I believe Internal Rot should be up there alongside Magrudergrind, Wormrot, Insect Warfare, Nasum etc. – what we could possibly conceive as the “grindcore mainstream”. I got sent one of these by Bobby back in 2013, which came with a cache of other massively disgusting gore and noise. Transpired Bowel Junk is no different; expect blasting, headache inducing goregrind with a noisy edge. A pleasure to listen to, no doubt.

Dead have been around for a fucking long time. Despite this however, I seem quite adept at avoiding their releases. You’ll Never Know Pleasure, from all the way back in 1995, blends humour with the sick goregrind and death metal templates, delivering a solid performance (with a great, clear sound) that makes me feel a bit daft for not paying that much attention sooner.

Two of metal’s arguably sickest bands go head to head on this fitting split CD. I’ve mentioned before that Oxidized Razor are incredibly hit and miss, but here’s some good shit from them. Fluids however, whilst being a different beast all together, blow the Razor out of the water. My only complaint however is that this needs to be longer! More gore!

I love how this weird little record from a group of Dutch friends has become a worldwide classic in the goregrind genre. The cover art has no doubt aided in its spread across the musical underworld, but the proof is truly in the pudding, as they say. Groovy riffs, blasting drums and those imitable pitchshifted vocal performances. Absolutely timeless, of course.

I believe this is the only release by Blasted Pancreas. I have read comments that the creator may have passed away, in which case, RIP. Blasted Pancreas is, to boil it down to its barest bones, immaculate Lymphatic Phlegm worship. Eery riffs and reverb drenched compositions contrast heavily with bludgeoning goregrind. Bon apetit.

Rounding out a trilogy of Carcass worship records that I have listened to today, is this wonderful full length from Pathologist. The production on this thing is fucking so good. Every instrument hangs perfect in the balance, without losing any of its disgusting grime or charm. Kudos on that front. Musically too, this is a solid block of old school goregrind. Brilliant. Ah Lymphatic Phlegm. Initially I was not a fan of this band but as time has gone on I have come to appreciate their often-imitated “melodic” brand of goregrind. Spooky reverb drenched riffs and barely audible drums are the order of the day, topped with heaps of disgusting shifted vocals. Honestly, its a little unsettling once the oddness of it all sinks in.

This was not quite what I was expecting. I mean, just look at the ridiculous cover art (lol). Pornthegore have more in common with Gronibard than they do with say, (insert random chunky-sounding Bizarre Leprous death metal band dressed as pornogrind), but the record is well put together all the same. It is, of course, pure fucking nonsense, but that is kind of the point, isn’t it?

Bestial Machinery is the release that blew open the world of Agoraphobic Nosebleed for me. I quickly devoured their history, which is presented here in the form of basically everything released up until the Honky Reduction LP on Relapse Records.
