Woods Of Ypres – Woods 5: Grey Skies & Electric Light (2012)

Woods 5 is probably my favourite Woods Of Ypres record. As a band I’ve been meaning to check out for years now, I finally made the journey through the discography backwards. Perhaps it was because Woods 5 is my starting point, or perhaps its because Woods 5 comes across like a black metal influenced Type O Negative, but I love it regardless. Either way, we have a journey through somewhat melodic, and somewhat epic compositions of metal. The black metal influence is carried over from earlier releases only, and permeates some of the riffs, rather than the band’s approach as a whole. The only downside to this record is the rather terrible cover art, but we can let that slide.
