Tomb Mold – Manor Of Infinite Forms (2018)

Cheers to Earache Records for reminding about this band in a recent tone-deaf meme post which appears to have significantly backfired for them. Anyway, Tomb Mold play a disgusting blend of muddy gore, which is coupled with an abstract and even a technical edge. The production is gorgeous, crisp and meaty. One of the best in the new crop of bizarre death metal legends.

Speaking of which, Tomb Mold were one of, if not the first, “new” old school death metal bands that I got into. I attribute my love for Undeath for bringing all this sickness back for me, but truth be told, Manor Of Infinite Forms was ingested into my psyche long before that. This is subterranean, but also clear as day where it counts (the production). Everything hangs in the balance perfectly, considering how heavy this is. The drums drown in reverb but still cut through the mix. The riffs, goddamn, are they good! And the vocals have a Mortician-grade sub-bass UUGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH to them. If you know what I mean? Haha!

Top that off with the artwork, which is just, what the actual fuck? I’m confused, but I am also glad to be given a glimpse of what this apparent Manor Of Infinite Forms looks like. A sticky, nasty, modern classic.
