Machine Head – Burn My Eyes (1994)

I can’t remember where or how I got this but this one of the few albums I had on CD as a kid. I remember selecting it as one of the few CDs to take into my art GCSE exam, which was like a 3 hour sitting (or felt like it) that I spent working on some bullshit painting that nobody gave a fuck about.

But yeah, anyway. My favourite thing about Burn My Eyes (about any Machine Head that I’ve heard, actually) is the drumming by Chris Kontos. That shit is off the hook, brah brah. It works extremely well with the crisp Colin Richardson production. Album-wise, I find the album peaks early with it’s thunderous opening track, and everything else kinda blurs into a soup of riffs and expensive production. I’ve heard these songs probably a hundred times and I couldn’t tell you the names of them all if you blindfolded me (don’t promise me a good time!).

I never really got into Machine Head after this (judging by the scores on some of these albums that seems like it was for the best), but I did enjoy a track or two off Imperium.

Anyway, four dollars a pound.
