Raw, punk-influenced black metal from Canada. To War is played with a looseness that no doubt will turn some people off, but if the messier / noisier end of the stick is your bag when it comes to hellish black metal then look no further than this disgusting 4 track demo / EP.

Beautiful, mesmerizing, magical – these are some of the words that I would use to describe the music on Darken Wood’s II. I know that dungeon synth is hardly the Superbowl of underground music, but I would say that this is a very underrated project lurking in the shadows. For the quality of the compositions here, Darken Wood definitely deserves more exposure.

Disc 1 is a “best of” collection so is pretty redundant to anyone even remotely familiar with Godflesh. The goodness lies with Disc 2, which is an odds and ends collection of other random shit. There’s some absolute gems here however, like “Love Is A Dog From Hell”, which is arguably one of the best Godflesh tracks ever.
