The Fall – I Am Kurious Oranj (1988)

You must understand that this review is from someone going in blind to the world and legacy of The Fall. At the time of writing I know them as a revered and extremely prolific British band that are held in quite a high regard. I Am Kurious Oranj is indeed a kurious listen and first impressions remind me of early XTC or even Killing Joke in some ways, but my comparisons are mostly trite, I’m sure.

I can’t decide if this is just utter nonsense or actually genuine musical genius. It is perhaps, a nice mix of both? The songs are more catchy and infectious then they have any right to be. The production, led by Ian Broudie, is punchy and clear and I bet this thing sounds fucking brilliant on vinyl.

I suppose the real question is: does this album make me want to listen to more from The Fall? The answer is a resounding yes.
