Destroyer 666 – Unchain The Wolves (1997)

July 20, 2024

I am unable to climb upon the hype train (operated by wolves no less) for this album. I’ve had pretty bad experiences with later Destroyer 666, and whilst this debut is far, far better, with very good, rabid, angry songwriting juxtaposed with moody atmospheric passages and a guitar player whose maturity holds together these almost punk-orientated songs filled with sneering and savage vocals. Despite all of this, something about this is failing to get me completely excited for what I am hearing. It is a good record, but not something that I am enthused about.
