Jesu – Pale Sketches (2007)

June 1, 2024

Like a lot of people it seems, I wasn’t all that fussed on Pale Sketches when it came out (not to be confused with another JB project, Pale Sketcher). Returning to this album over a decade later however, I am happy to say that I was incorrect to dismiss this record. Whilst at the time it felt like a change of pace, nowadays it fits right on in to the larger Jesu canon of albums. The electronic elements of Jesu are quite underrated, and they are given room here for the first time to properly bloom. To call Pale Sketches “chilled out” is probably going a little bit too far, but I had this on during a late Friday afternoon, with the sun turning a deeper orange in the sky as evening came, and honestly, it was amazing. It’s not perfect, but it is pretty damn good.
