Dimmu Borgir – In Sorte Diaboli (2007)

“Sacrilegious Scorn” and possibly “Serpentine Offering” aside, this album is awash in a sea of mediocrity. Every single track blurs together into one segment, and I feel like I’m listening to the same thing over and over. The lack of textural variety is dumbfounding for a band of such immense musical talent. Production wise, things are fantastic. Boasting a big budget sound, and for this record the addition of the absurdly brilliant Hellhammer on drums, it is even more baffling how In Sorte Diaboli fails in the ways that it does.

I’ve been trying to wrap my head around this thing since the day it released. I think it’s time to give up, finally. This sucks.
