Kuvotus / Tunkio – Split Tape (2021)

Tunkio are one of my favourite goregrind discoveries of the last few months. You can thank Chopping Headz Zine for that, even though the band have been around for a few years now. Blasting mental shit. Kuvotus are, without sounding too samey, cut from the same cloth of ping-tastic, hyper-blasting gore mania. Honestly, I’m in so deep at this point that this shit almost sounds relaxing. Fabulous.

2023 edit: Apparently I like this so much that I reviewed it twice:

Both Tunkio and Kuvotus sound enormous. Tunkio are currently one of my favourite gargling, blasting gore outfits from modern times. Everything of theirs that I’ve heard thus far is just absolutely killer and this split is no exception. Expect fuzzy, gurgling goregrind with blasting drums with conscious / left-wing themes, which is just lovely.

Kuvotus are new to me. They aren’t a bazillion miles away from Tunkio but with – dare I say – more of an old school death metal groove going on. Vocally, things are more in the death metal growl vein, rather than the watery toilet goo employed by Tunkio. I’m pleased to report however, that the snare drum sounds like total shit, so they fit right in here LOL

Honestly, both bands are fantastic and the material here from both of them is very, very good.
